Explain the 5 sources of leader power Essay Example for Free

Explain the 5 sources of leader power Essay If the manufacturing company engages in sales or after-sales industries it pursues forward integration strategy. This strategy is implemented when the company wants to achieve higher economies of scale and larger market share. Forward integration strategy became very popular with increasing internet appearance. Many manufacturing companies have built their online stores and started selling their products directly to consumers, bypassing retailers. Forward integration strategy is effective when: Few quality distributors are available in the industry. Distributors or retailers have high profit margins. Distributors are very expensive, unreliable or unable to meet firm’s distribution needs. The industry is expected to grow significantly. There are benefits of stable production and distribution. The company has enough resources and capabilities to manage the new business. When the same manufacturing company starts making intermediate goods for itself or takes over its previous suppliers, it pursues backward integration strategy. Firms implement backward integration strategy in order to secure stable input of resources and become more efficient. Backward integration strategy is most beneficial when: Firm’s current suppliers are unreliable, expensive or cannot supply the required inputs. There are only few small suppliers but many competitors in the industry. The industry is expanding rapidly. The prices of inputs are unstable. Suppliers earn high profit margins. A company has necessary resources and capabilities to manage the new business. Advantages Advantages of VI: Lower costs due to eliminated market transaction costs Improved quality of supplies Critical resources can be acquired through VI Improved coordination in supply chain Greater market share Secured distribution channels Facilitates investment in specialized assets (site, physical-assets and human-assets) New competencies Disadvantages Disadvantages of VI: Higher costs if the company is incapable to manage new activities efficiently The ownership of supply and distribution channels may lead to lower quality products and reduced efficiency because of the lack of competition Increased bureaucracy and higher investments leads to reduced flexibility Higher potential for legal repercussion due to size (An organization may become a monopoly) New competencies may clash with old ones and lead to competitive disadvantage Alternatives to VI VI may not always be the best choice for an organization due to a lack of sufficient resources that are needed to venture into a new industry. Sometimes the alternatives to VI offer more benefits. The available choices differ in the amount of investments required and the integration level. For example, short-term contracts require little integration and much less investments than joint ventures.

Gendering the Welfare State Essay -- United States Politics Welfare Pa

Gendering the Welfare State The impetus for the creation of welfare in the United States was children . Children are viewed as a social good— the good students (or the troubled youth) of tomorrow or the devoted worker (or the unemployed worker) of the future. However rampant the notion of the free-market, capitalist society, children, argued proponents, are not autonomous beings and should not be treated as so. Therefore, it was morally right and just to create a program providing for children who could not be provided for. Along the long road from New Deal policies, welfare shifted form many times, most notably to adjust to the growing sense that family is also a part of child development and well-being and parents must be included in financial support. The welfare system as we have known it in our lifetimes has been in place for the supposed aid of families and children. This paper will lay out the main components of the current welfare system, test the extent to which the system purports to be women a nd family friendly and the extent to which it actually is, and locate the place men have within the system. Furthermore, I will look to the current state of welfare as it approaches reauthorization, reviewing proposed changes and suggesting others to fully discover that the United States welfare system, though providing a very necessary service, devalues women and acts as a block against women acquiring agency and independence. In 1996, President Bill Clinton signed TANF into law. The 'Temporary Aid For Needy Families' policy created several new distinctions between itself and pre-'96 law. The most important, with regard to scope and effect on women, were the devolution of power to the states, a federally imposed five-year... ...he American welfare system, which in many ways is a useful tool for families living in poverty. The attention to women, promised by the program but not realized in its actuality, must be reevaluated if the system is going to become a tool for empowering women and turning out productive members of society. The character I chose was from a book titled Merchant of...

The character I chose was from a book titled Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare. I found Shylock to be an interesting character since there was a tremendous change with regard to his character. At the beginning on the book, Shylock was depicted as a man who was cruel and selfish. The plot of the story illustrates how people hated him because he did not show mercy to any person who default his payments. His cruel character is depicted when he intentionally lend Antonio cash knowing that he would not be able to pay it back on time. This character is facilitated by the fact that the terms and conditions laid on the loan are barbaric. Shylock insists on a pound of flesh from Antonio’s body when he defaults payment. As expected, Antonio†¦show more content†¦Dubose’s fight with addiction and her willingness to face the illness head-on despite knowing that it’s going to take her life. Also Jen learns of bravery from Atticus who faces a mad dog. Jen’s most courageous act is when the mob confronts Atticus at the jail, determined to kill not only Tom but also Atticus, if necessary. Jem refuses to obey father for the first time in his life. Scout explains, â€Å"In the midst of this strange assembly, Atticus stood trying to make Jem mind him. ‘I am not going,’ was the steady answer.† Scout recognizes that Jem is exhibiting great courage. Scout, however, is braver by addressing the mob, although, ironically, she has no idea how brave she’s being. Not until she’s safety tucked in bed that night does Scout realize that the line between bravery and foolhardiness is thin. This act of bravery enables Jem to separate the men in the mob into individuals, so they are no longer thinking as a mob and more and more as in individuals. She also reminds them that they have children at home and less hate and more love fill their minds as they listen to her ask usual questions. With this, Scout and Jem w ere able to separate the mob and stop them from fighting Atticus. The issue of slavery was one that almost tore apart the union that is now the United States of America. The reason for this was because different sides of the union sought different goals and had different ideals.Show MoreRelatedLangston Hughes Research Paper25309 Words   |  102 PagesIn 1919, when Langston Hughes was seventeen years old, he spent the summer with his father, Jim Hughes, in Toluca, Mexico.
